Life and Ministry

Feeding God’s community in Jesus’ name with bread for life in body and spirit through…

Garden blessingWe pray first, last and always. We do this on our own as much as possible, but we also gather to do it in community, not only on Sunday morning, but also every Wednesday. A group of Bethlehem members come together every Wednesday at 7pm for Prayer First, praying for our church, our community, and the world.

In the summer, we hold Prayer First at 10:30am in our newly developed prayer garden, which is open round the clock to the community to use. Stop by and check it out!

We take worship very seriously. Because liturgy means “the work of the people,” we try to involve as many people as possible in its leadership, both in visible and in behind-the-scenes roles. See our Worship page to learn more about how and why we worship.

Strawberry Social prep

Bethlehem is a very giving congregation. We have many occasional ministries in which we participate – coat collection for the Open Door Mission, Angel Tree during Christmas, ringing the bell for Salvation Army, Operation: Christmas Stocking project with St. Martin, helping out at Maggie’s Kids, and helping at St. John’s Lutheran Home, to name a few. We are always eager to get involved in another ministry, either financially or with our hands and hearts. We tend to focus our attention on a different ministry each month. Furthermore, each year, we joyfully give thousands of dollars away to worthy causes.

In addition, we have some continuing ministries. We have a vegetable garden, the produce from which goes to local food cupboards and assisted living homes. We plant the flowers on the corner of 250 and Plank Rd. We have held several health fairs. Our women’s group is involved in several ministries in the community. Among them is an active group of quilters, who work year-round on quilts to donate to Lutheran World Relief.

We also love to have fun, and to be with and serve one another, and believe that we see God in this as much as anything. Each year in June, we hold a Strawberry Social, the proceeds from which we give away to a local ministry. We have held Corn Roasts, Carnivals, and Camp Bethlehem. We also care for each other. We have an active lay visitation team that brings communion to our shut-ins. Our Sunshine Committee makes sure to send cards and goodies to people who are having a rough time or could for any reason use a smile. We put on a delicious coffee hour each Sunday, and have periodic game nights and potlucks that can get pretty rowdy! We at Bethlehem do love a good party.
